About Hotstart
‘Hotstart’ is a FREE hospitality pre-employment program open to all Canberrans aged between 17 - 24 years and job seekers of any age.
The program has been developed by Access Recognised Training (ACCESS) in partnership with Thoroughbred Park and a collection of major ACT hospitality employers, JobActive providers and OzHarvest. Hotstart draws its funding from the ACT and Federal Government's JobTrainer initiative.
How does it work?
The ‘Hotstart’ program has three components:
01

The first component of the ‘Hotstart’ program involves eligible participants undertaking five (5) consecutive days of face-to-face pre-employment training delivered at Thoroughbred Park – Canberra. The pre-employment training program will give participants a ‘taste’ of front and back of house hospitality activities and prepare them for a post-Covid workplace.

Topics covered include customer service, basic cookery, responsible service of alcohol, infection control, food handling, personal hygiene and workplace safety. To access the funding for training, all eligible participants will be enrolled in a Certificate II in Kitchen Operations through the ACT and Federal Governments JobTrainer initiative.

On the final day of the pre-employment training, participants will be directly involved in a
OzHarvest ‘Cook for a Cause’ event. This will involve participants working with chefs from our
partner organisations to prepare rescued food for delivery to the OzHarvest network.

Course 1: 9.30am – 4.30pm, 8-12 February 2021, Thoroughbred Park – Canberra, 1 Randwick Rd, Lyneham ACT.  NOW ACCEPTING ENROLMENTS

Course 2: 9.30am – 4.30pm, 22-26 February 2021, Thoroughbred Park – Canberra, 1 Randwick Rd, Lyneham ACT.

02
